Cook County Treasurer's Office - 9/29/2017
Delinquency bills have been mailed to nearly 140,000 property owners who did not pay their taxes when the Second Installment was due August 1, 2017. That is about 8 percent of the 1.8 million bills issued by the Cook County Treasurer's Office.
The interest charge on past-due bills is 1.5 percent per month.
The auction for delinquent payments for Tax Year 2016 (payable in 2017) will be held on May 4, 2018, instead of December 4, 2017. The Legislature reversed a 2014 law that shortened the time between the second installment payment and the auction to just
four months.
