With Black Homeownership Lagging, Chicago Group Aims to Help Get Past Barriers

Chicago Sun-Times

While a Chicago non-profit group seeks to increase the number of African Americans who own their own homes, a public outreach effort helped keep homeowners from losing their homes by warning about the Annual Cook County Tax Sale, Columnist Mary Mitchell reported.

Delinquent taxes on 10,970 properties were auctioned off at this year’s Sale, which ended May 11, 2018.

“The taxes were sold on the fewest number of properties in more than 20 years,” said Pappas, who thanked elected officials and community leaders for contacting their constituents.
