Treasurer Maria Pappas says property owners who use their bank accounts to pay their tax bills online will no longer have to pay a $1 fee in an interview with Big John Howell and Ramblin’ Ray Stevens on WLS-AM.

The vast majority of property owners who prepaid their 2018 taxes in 2017 used cookcountytreasurer.com, Pappas noted.

“They didn’t want to deal in cash,” she said. “They didn’t want to deal with a check. Didn’t want to come to my office. Didn’t want to come to a Chase bank. And didn’t want to talk to anyone with the U.S. Postal Service."
