Taxpayers are flooding county treasurers’ offices to prepay property tax bills that won’t arrive until next year, Crain’s Chicago Business reported.
Cook County has already seen a six-fold increase in prepayments this year. The $85 million paid so far could triple to $250 million by the end-of-the-month deadline, said Treasurer Maria Pappas.
Most of the prepayments for Cook County are online, she notes.
