Una calculadora de planes de pago está disponible sin costo en cookcountytreasurer.com para ayudar a los propietarios que se atrasen en el pago de sus impuestos. La calculadora ayuda a los contribuyentes que desean presupuestar sus gastos de impuestos a la propiedad sobre los pagos realizados mensual o quincenalmente.

No hay necesidad de que los propietarios de viviendas estén a merced de la despiadada Venta Anual de Impuestos", dijo Pappas. "Esta calculadora de planes de pago puede ayudarle a mantener el control cuando quizá piensa que todo está perdido”.

Si bien la Oficina de la Tesorería ha aceptado previamente pagos parciales de facturas de impuestos, la calculadora está diseñado para proporcionar un sistema real para aquellos en riesgo de que se vendan sus impuestos morosos en la Venta Anual de Impuestos del condado, una subasta de impuestos a la propiedad no pagados.

“Queremos hacer todo lo posible para ayudar a las personas a pagar su deuda tributaria", dijo Pappas. "Nosotros rutinariamente descubrimos que miles de propiedades ofrecidas en nuestra Venta Anual de Impuestos son propiedad de Personas que adeudan menos de $1000 en impuestos.”

Muchos propietarios se sorprendieron por los aumentos de impuestos a la propiedad este año, particularmente en los suburbios del sur y suroeste. Les preocupa lo que sucederá si no pueden pagar sus facturas en su totalidad antes de la fecha de vencimiento del jueves 1 de agosto.

“Trabajaré con los ministros religiosos para ayudar a correr la voz a las congregaciones y a los líderes comunitarios de que la Calculadora de Planes de Pago puede ayudar a las personas a pagar sus impuestos durante un período prolongado de tiempo", dijo el reverendo John Harrell, presidente y fundador de Black Men United, una organización nacional de servicio comunitario.

Los contribuyentes pueden inscribirse para recibir notificaciones por correo electrónico o mensaje de texto recordándoles que deben realizar los pagos mensuales o quincenales recomendados por la Calculadora de Planes de Pago.

La ley estatal requiere que los propietarios que no paguen sus impuestos en su totalidad antes de la fecha de vencimiento enfrenten cargos por intereses adicionales del 0.75% por mes, a partir de los impuestos de 2023 que vencen en 2024. A los impuestos que vencían en 2023 y años anteriores se les cobra un interés del 1.5% mensual.

La Venta Anual de Impuestos ocurre aproximadamente 13 meses después de la fecha de vencimiento de la Segunda Cuota del predial. Una vez que se ofrecen los impuestos no pagados en la Venta Anual de Impuestos, el dueño de la propiedad debe pagar los impuestos e intereses atrasados en un solo pago.

“La Venta Anual de Impuestos no tiene piedad", dijo Pappas. "Tenemos que hacerla misericordiosa permitiendo que la gente pague lo que pueda, a tiempo para evitarla”.

Pappas dijo que la Calculadora de Planes de Pago surgió de las deliberaciones del Grupo de Trabajo del Plan de Pago del Impuesto a la Propiedad de Illinois. La Asamblea General del estado en 2023 aprobó una legislación que creó el grupo de trabajo para recomendar opciones de pago diseñadas para evitar que las viviendas ocupadas por propietarios en mora en el Condado Cook se vendan en la Venta Anual de Impuestos.
